40 Miles in Surrey

My first big training run was for the Children's Trust at Tadworth and was a 40 mile route around the Surrey Hills nearly to Guildford and back. Not knowing what to expect or how big some of the hills were was interesting - luckily I David to spur me on - 40 miles took 3 hours.

Training regime

Since deciding to do this ride training became an important need. I serviced by Ridgeback bike (a hybrid) and started to put on some miles with a few 10 miles rides on knobbly tyres. The pace was slow and it was actually quite hard work. According to mapmyride a 5 miles ride took me 35 minutes at the beginning of May.

With some invaluable advice from Bike and Run & South Down Cycles i changed my tyres and to road ones and got my speed and fitness up. By the end of May I done 300 miles - which i never expected to do. David Fernandes has set me a goal of doing a 40 miles ride at the beginning of June in Surrey. This seemed like a long way but then i knew i had to do 55 miles a day at the end of August.

Doing it for Lucy

Hello All

For those of you who know I am cycling from London to Paris on 22 August for Lucy McNamara and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.  I made my decision to do this while on holiday in France at the beginning of May and thinking that August was a long way away.  I hoped to be able to join at least one other cyclist to join me on this trip.   I am raising money for CFT - follow the link.
